CCFC bounces back, defeats Pajaro Valley United 6-1
Coming off of a tough loss a week ago at JASA FC in Redwood City, Contra Costa FC returned home to Northgate High School in Walnut Creek and got themselves back on track off of a pair of first half goals by Jonathan Ayala and Brandon Kearney in their 4-1 win over Parajo Valley United, clinching the top-seed in the UPSL’s Wild West Division.
CCFC struck first in the 11th minute as Ayala headed in a second-chance ball off of an initial shot by Navarro inside PVU’s six-yard box. Navarro nearly doubled CCFC’s score just minutes later, but his header just went over the top of the crossbar.
PVU looked to pull even in the 15th minute off of a counter attack, however their run in on goal was routinely stopped by goalkeeper Andrew Konstantino.
Konstantino couldn’t hold PVU out of the net for long. Parajo Valley responded with an equalizer in the 23rd minute, heading in a shot a point-blank range past Konstantino to pull even at 1-1.
CCFC took the lead back in the 33rd minute when Brandon Kearney finished a shot into an open net off of a pass by Ayala at the far post. PVU’s goalkeeper ran in to stop Ayala, leaving Kearney open at the post with nothing but net.
Navarro earned the first goal of his brace at the hour mark, beating PVU’s backline and fighting for the ball before breaking away and finishing his shot in the lower corner of the net, giving CCFC an insurance, third goal. His second of the game came just eight minutes later when he finished a shot into the upper 90, running in on goal.
Ellie Padilla came off of the bench and scored in the 78th minute, extending Contra Costa’s lead to 5-1, and Jesus Ocegueda tapped in an easy second-chance ball at the far post in the 80th minute to give CCFC a commanding 6-1 lead in the final minutes.
The win helps CCFC clinch the top seed in the division, putting them five points clear of second place PVU, who entered Saturday’s game just two points behind Contra Costa in second.
CCFC returns home to Northgate High School next Saturday in the final game of the regular season, taking on Redding Royals FC at 6 p.m.
